Buffalo Snow Storm 2014: Six Deaths Reported As Epic Snowstorm Pummels Buffalo

Buffalo Snow Storm 2014 - As temperatures in all 50 states fell to below freezing, an epic snowstorm pummeled Buffalo, dumping massive mounds of snow on parts of upstate New York. Six deaths were reported while other residents remained trapped in their homes and stranded motorists on highways.

Authorities said six deaths in the region were blamed to the Buffalo Snow storm this 2014. Buffalo, New York is one of the hardest-struck areas in a week when snowstorms and record-low temperatures pummeled much of the nation. CNN reported in the midst of the snowstorms that produced as much as six feet of snow blanketed Buffalo, several tales about acts of kindness and bravery arose.

The Buffalo snow storm of epic proportions this 2014 has caused New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to declare a state of emergency for several counties in and around Buffalo, Time reported.

As per the statement on the governor's Web site, the National Guard will be deployed to the affected communities to help residents dig out.  

"This storm may persist until Friday morning with the potential for another two feet of snow," Cuomo said in the statement. "New Yorkers in these areas should exercise extreme caution, and stay off the roads until conditions are clearer and safer."

Meanwhile, forecasters have predicted the snowy conditions could last through the week. Global News CA reported that on Wednesday morning, a band of snow slightly shifted into Buffalo's northern suburbs. However, forecasters emphasized and cautioned a second spell of lake-effect snow will move into the region and could dump another two feet by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, almost 50 percent of America had snow on the ground.

Moreover, Buffalo Niagara International Airport spokesperson C. Douglas Hartmayer said that most airlines have also cancelled some flights because many people were having trouble crossing the snow-covered streets to get to the airport due to the ferocious snow storm.

Because of an epic Buffalo snow storm this 2014, the driving ban in south Buffalo still remains in effect. While hospitals are under-staffed because many employees could not travel.

To respond to emergency calls, rescuers coming from the fire department are using 18 snowmobiles to help stranded motorists.  

The Buffalo snow storm 2014 has resulted to the deaths of six people. Officials said one of the storm-related deaths was from a car accident and three other people died due to cardiac issues that resulted from shoveling snow. A man was also found dead inside a car buried in 10 to 15 feet of snow while the other died while operating a snow blower.
