Rodney Fowler Walmart - A man has been arrested at a Walmart outlet in Spartanburg, SC, on Tuesday for shoplifting, after he tried to escape with five rib-eye steaks he was seating on.
Police have identified the accused man as 43 years old Rodney Fowler.
He was found sitting on top of the steaks, which he had hidden under the seat of his scooter. The police say this is the first time Rodney Fowler has been arrested for shoplifting.
The suspect was reportedly caught by a Wal-Mart loss prevention employee, Jackie Jenkins. She said she saw Fowler at the store's meat section, selecting and then hiding five pieces of steak underneath the seat of a motorized handicap scooter.
Rodney Fowler's Walmart escapade saw him drive around the mall multiple times as he tried to buy some time before escaping, according to Jenkins.
"[The] suspect sat on the steaks and exited the store passing all points of sale, without attempting to pay for said merchandise," a police report said.
The rather bizarre Rodney Fowler Walmart theft has been widely discussed online. The accused Walmart meat thief is said to weigh about 350 pounds. Reports indicate that because of his size, the officer who arrested him had to cuff him using two pairs of handcuffs.
"Cuffs were double-locked and checked for fit," the police reports read.
After the Rodney Fowler Walmart theft, police officers reportedly took the suspect to the Spartanburg County Jail, where he was placed under custody for three hours before being released without bond.
It's still unclear if Rodney Fowler's Walmart screw up would see him face criminal charges. The reason why he chose to steal five eye steaks by seating on them has not been disclosed. It's also unclear what Walmart officials did with the steaks in question; if they threw then away or placed them back on the shelves.
