Boko Haram Attack In Nigeria Today - A local government official and a military source reported today that at least 45 people were killed in a retribution attack orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents on a northeastern Nigerian village. Nigeria has been the Islamists' epicenter of their five-year insurgency.
During the Boko Haram attack in Nigeria today, the military source said the militants raged the village on Wednesday to retaliate the deaths of four of their members who went into the market but were identified and killed by soldiers in a gun fight. According to the New Straits Times Online, Mafa district council chairman Shettima Lawan said the attack on Azaya Kura village transpired on a busy market day.
"The Boko Haram militants mobilized and came on a reprisal," the source said. "They slaughtered 45 people. They've been buried."
The Islamic extremists attacked a village in Nigeria's northeastern Borno state killing at least 45 villagers. Magazetini said Boko Haram militants riding in trucks raged the village of Azaya Kura in the Mafa area at about noon local time Wednesday and began attacking residents and destroying houses. "There was an attack and many people were killed, according to the reports we got from the Vigilante officials from that axis," Nigeria Vigilante Group official Muhammed Gava confirmed to VOA News through a phone call.
A local from the attacked community, Jabir Usman told reporters in Maiduguri about the deaths caused by the Boko Haram attack in Nigeria today.
"From what we counted so far, 45 men have been killed and there are others that died in the bushes... due [to] excessive bleeding after sustaining bullet injuries," Usman said.
Meanwhile, the Mafa Council chairman Lawan said that he is searching for motives behind the Boko Haram attack in Nigeria today.
"I am still searching for motives behind mass killing and destruction by some people under the guise of entrenching certain religion," Lawan said. "I wish to appeal to the federal government to take urgent steps and rescue our people from imminent extinction."
Since the insurgents snubbed the truce announced by the government, the Boko Haram attack in Nigeria today has intensified.
