The American Music Awards (AMA) 2014 winners were finally revealed! On Sunday, several big names in the music industry graced the annual event. The star-studded affair was held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 23. The show was hosted by famous rapper Pitbull.
This 2014, singer Taylor Swift commenced the AMA Awards with her remarkable television debut performance of "Blank Space." Swift was also among the biggest winners of the show. The Hollywood Life reported Swift was awarded by Diana Ross with the first-ever Dick Clark Award for Excellence.
"I'm just so blown away to have just received an award from Diana Ross, who over the course of her career stood up for herself so many times in a time when it was not popular for a woman to stand up for herself," Swift said. "I'm so honored."
At the event, British boy band One Direction received three awards namely: "Artist of the Year," "Favorite Pop/Rock Album" for "Midnight Memories" and "Favorite Pop/Rock Band." Also among the 2014 AMA Awards biggest winners was Iggy Azalea.
Iggy Azalea, the Australian rapper won the "Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album" and "Favorite Artist Rap/Hip-Hop Album." According to E! News, she beat Eminem for the awards, making a sweet revenge after his insults at her the other week.
"This award is the first award I've ever won in my entire life and it means so much to me that it is for Best Hip-Hop, because that's what inspired me to move to America and pursue my dreams and it's what helped me when I was a teenager to escape and to get through my life and to better times," Azalea said during her AMA Awards 2014 acceptance speech.
Meanwhile, soulful British singer Sam Smith was awarded as "Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist." In a CNN report, Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Luke Bryan were also among the winners at the AMA Awards 2014. While singer-actress Jennifer Lopez stole the show for her "Booty" performance.
Despite the controversies the event raked last year, the AMA Awards 2014 was a tame affair. Though not a winner, Selena Gomez left everyone talking with her poignant rendition of her single, "The Heart Wants What It Wants."
"More than anything, I'm just excited that people everywhere that are feeling what I feel and feel that, will get to see that," Gomez said on a video posted Instagram during the AMA rehearsals. "I just want people to be able to relate to that."
