The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has gone up to a record $476 million for Friday drawing after no one claimed the $363 million on Tuesday night.
According to the Mega Millions website, the largest jackpot was in March 2007 with a record amount of $390 million that was divided between two winners who bought tickets in Georgia and New Jersey.
In Tuesday's drawing, around 47 players came close to the six winning numbers, but no one managed to match all the six numbers. The winning numbers in Tuesday's draw were: 9, 19, 34, 44, 51 and Mega Ball 24.
The jackpot has been growing since Jan. 24 and the chances of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are approximately one in 176 million.
The winning numbers will be drawn on Friday at around 11 p.m ET. If you win the jackpot Friday, then you are left with two options. The first is to take the amount in a single payment and the second is to have your jackpot paid out over 26 years, LA Times reported.
Depending upon how much the winner will get after deducting taxes, the lucky Mega Millions winner might end up being wealthier than Mitt Romney the Republican presidential candidate, whose net worth is $250 million, President Barack Obama with a net worth of $10.5 million, Singer Lady Gaga with the net worth of $90 million and musician and "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler with a net worth of $125 million.
