$100,000 found at Burger King - A blue backpack containing bundles of $50 and $100 bills amounting to $100,000 was found abandoned at a Burger King table.
Reports indicate that the incident happened at the Burger King restaurant on North Bascom Avenue in San Jose. An assistant manager was the first to spot the bag containing the money.
Sahista Bakawla, the employee who spotted the bag containing $100,000 found at Burger King, said she reported the missing bag to her superiors after waiting for a while to see if its owner would turn up.
"I twice cleaned, like two or three times cleaned the tables and it's still here. I waited until 3 p.m. And nobody came here," Bakawla said.
According to local sources, the owner of the outlet Altaf Chaus was given the blue backpack. He reportedly opened it in order to see if an ID or phone number could be found when he saw its cash content.
"I open the zipper, I see lots of money, cash money, $100 bills stack up like half the bag, money. I said, 'wow! Today's my birthday, this is my birthday gift," Chaus said.
However, he realized that it wasn't his birthday so he call cops. "I've been in this country 26 years and I worked two jobs for 15 years before I bought this Burger King, so I'm a very hard working man. I don't want that money, maybe it belongs to somebody," Chaus explained.
San Jose Police say upon arrival, officers examined the bag containing $100,000 found at Burger King. Besides the cash, they also found a bank slip, candy, a pack of cigarettes and a little bit of marijuana in the blue backpack.
The $100,000 found at Burger King has made headlines. Authorities have not disclosed the name of the bank whose slip was found in the bag. However, police say they are working with the bank to locate the owner and return it.
