"Miss Earth" 2014 Winner - On Saturday, Nov. 29, "Miss Earth" 2014 grand coronation night was held at the University of the Philippines Theater in Manila, Philippines. And the country's representative in the beauty pageant, Jamie Herrell, was crowned as this year's winner. While candidates from Russia, Venezuela and the United States were hailed runners-up.
The environment-centered "Miss Earth" 2014 pageant showcased the beauty and intelligence of 84 candidates from around the world. Yahoo! News reported the competition is deemed as one of the "Big Four Beauty Pageants" of the world, along with "Miss Universe," the upcoming "Miss World" and "Miss International."
This 2014, Jamie Herrell from the Philippines was crowned as "Miss Earth" winner. While Andrea Neu of the USA was hailed as "Miss Earth Air," Maira Alexandra Rodriguez of Venezuela as "Miss Earth Water" and Russia's Anastasia Trusova is "Miss Earth Fire."
At the "Miss Earth" 2014 coronation, the candidates emerged in pink gowns as the competition's finals night commenced. According to Rappler, the top 16 finalists were then announced followed by the swimsuit and evening gown presentations. Candidates from Brazil, Mongolia, Slovak Republic, Venezuela, USA, Philippines, Russia and Spain made the top 8 list.
This year's "Miss Earth" question and answer segment tested the 84 pageant's contestants. The women also braved the challenges like language barriers and nervousness during the interview portion. Last year, Venezuela's Alyz Henrich was crowned as the pageant's winner.
During the "Miss Earth" pageant night, Miss Philippines' Herrell was asked about the step she would take to address global warming.
"Global warming has been known to be a long, overdue issue. I will use my title to inspire others, help our environment," Herrell answered. "And we should start with the kids as they are the people of tomorrow. They will help the communities."
The Philippines' victory on this year's "Miss Earth" pageant matched Venezuela's two-crown record, sharing the top spot as the nations with the most wins in the worldwide tilt.
While Herrell of the Philippines was proclaimed as the "Miss Earth" winner, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that USA's Neu was hailed as the second and "Miss Earth Air" and will receive a $2,000 contract with Carousel Productions for the duration of their reign.
The "Miss Earth" 2014 coronation night was televised live in nations covered by cable channels such as Venevision, Mehwar TV, Univision and Star World.
