Nordstrom shooting - A Nordstrom employee, who was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend in Chicago on Black Friday, has died.
The upscale fashion retailer issued a somber statement announcing the death of the employee injured in the Nordstrom shooting incident.
"We are deeply saddened to learn that our employee who was injured in Friday evening's tragedy at our Michigan Avenue store passed," the statement published via Facebook said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. We will miss her."
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim of the Nordstrom shooting as 22 years old Nadia Ezaldein. She was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, after being rushed to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Authorities have also identified her attacker in the Nordstrom shooting as 31 years old Marcus Dee. He reportedly shot himself after targeting and shooting Ezaldein in the crowded mall. Chicago Police officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Nordstrom shooting occurred on the second floor of the retailer's store located in Magnificent Mile - a River North upscale shopping district. Hundreds of customers, who were in the store hunting for the best Black Friday deals, scattered and fled for cover when Dee open fire.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the tragic incident.
Reuters say Ezaldein and Dee broke up in December 2013. A member of Ezaldein's family said Dee used to abuse her physically when they were together. This relative, whose identity has been withheld, also told the Chicago Tribune that Dee had harassed Ezaldein and other of her family members since their relationship ended.
The Nordstrom shooting forced the outlet to be shut down. However, reports indicate that managers of the high-end retailer would be open for shoppers on Sunday. Chicago police say, based on preliminary investigations, it appears that Ezaldein was the sole target of the Nordstrom shooting. No other injuries were recorded.
