Fans of "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" have been waiting quite a while, and now it appears their patience may finally pay off. Developer Bethesda Game Studios has revealed an announcement about the action-adventure role-playing game will be coming soon.
"Some things coming down the road in April for all you 'Rage' and 'Skyrim' fans," Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing, tweeted on Friday. "April is gonna have some cool news and surprises. Stay tuned."
It is unknown exactly what the announcement will entail, but new downloadable content, or DLC, is expected to launch soon. Details on the DLC have not been confirmed, but a post in a Gamefaqs forum on March 20 allegedly offers some leaked information about it.
Described in the post as "massive DLC," the first of three modules is said to be called the "Riders of Hammerfell"; the second is said to be a Morrowind expansion involving a werewolf quest; and the third is said to center on a war with the Thalmor somewhere in Cyrodil. Again, this hasn't been confirmed by Bethesda, so it is still speculation at this point.
According to Cinemablend.com, the developer confirmed it is certainly working on DLC, and that the new packs will have a "lot of meat on them." There will only be a few packs, but each is expected to be large in size.
Back in December, after taking home the Game of the Year honor at the Spike Video Game Awards show, director Todd Howard dropped some hints about potential DLC releases.
Howard said the expansions would focus on "ways to make the game better, not just have more, because the game is so big," according to Joystiq. "So we're going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways we can improve it."
More than three months later, fans now will be interested to see what the development team has on its collective mind. But new DLC isn't the only change to hit the "Skyrim" community around this time: The game's latest patch update has been made available to PC players, leaving console owners waiting for the upgrade. The delay on PS3 and Xbox 360 systems is due to the fact that publishers must go through Microsoft and Sony before their versions can be distributed.
