Gauhar Khan assaulted - A 24 years old man has slapped Indian actress and model Gauhar Khan on the set of her musical reality show because he thought her appearance was indecent.
The incident reportedly happened on Sunday evening in Film City studio, Mumbai, while Gauhar was shooting the final episode of her reality show, India's Raw Star.
When she was attacked, Gauhar had reportedly finished her act and walked off the set to sit with the audience; a routine she does whenever an artiste is performing.
Her assailant has been identified as 24 years old Mohammed Akil Malik, who was part of the 2,500 people in the audience. He managed to by-pass about 250 guards before allegedly groping and slapping Khan at least three times for dressing indecently. A short video of the aftermath of the Gauhar Khan assault has gone viral.
"Malik told the actress that he was against her wearing short clothes before slapping her. He touched her inappropriately as well. Following this, guards deployed at the show intervened and stopped him," a police officer says.
After Gauhar Khan was assaulted, members of her crew and guards quickly apprehended Malik and threw him out.
According to the Dnaindia.com, who quoted the unidentified officer, Malik was handed to the police. He was reportedly sent for a medical examination to determine his mental health.
Malik has since been arrested under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (Outraging modesty) under the Indian Penal Code.
According to Punjabrao Ugale, the DCP of Zone 12, investigations are underway and officials are currently questioning the suspect who assaulted Gauhar Khan.
"We will be taking statements from the actress. Currently we are interrogating the accused. Investigations are on," Ugale said.
After Gauhar Khan was assaulted, she was visibly shocked. Reports indicate that she was given time to rest and gather herself before continuing to shoot. The show, which was being telecasted in a deferred live format, was not affected by the incident.
News of 'Gauhar Khan assaulted' has made headlines all over the world. Malik is expected to appear before a Boriwali Court today.
