Jason White Of Green Day To Make Full Recovery From Treatable Tonsil Cancer

In an announcement made by the band on Friday, Green Day revealed that its longtime guitarist Jason White was diagnosed with treatable tonsil cancer. Luckily, White's cancer is curable and White is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.

Jason White is an American musician popularly known as the current lead guitarist of the punk rock band Green Day. Since 1999, White has been a touring member and played lead guitar in the majority of their live shows until 2012.

During late 2012, Jason White became an official member of the band with Green Day becoming a four-member group, as reported by Rolling Stone. The 41-year-old guitarist is also a co-founder of Adeline Records alongside Billie Joe Armstrong as well as the guitarist and vocalist of the Californian punk band Pinhead Gunpowder.

On Dec. 3, 2014, White was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. According to People, the band released a statement on their website informing fans to White's condition.

"We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread," Green Day's announcement said.  "Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery."

"Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time," the group added.

Over the last couple of years, Green Day have been troubled with health issues. According to The Independent UK, the band was forced to cancel a series of tour dates in 2012 and 2013 after the band's lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong entered a rehabilitation program for drug addiction.

Because of Armstrong's substance abuse, one of the band's performances was cut short due to his expletive-filled rant onstage at the iHeartRadio festival. A video footage of his meltdown rapidly went viral.

Green Day is one of the nominated bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which will be inducted in April 2015.

Meanwhile, Green Day's announcement on Facebook about Jason White's health condition has now over 17,400 likes, 380 shares and over a thousand comments showing the fans' support and well-wishes to White. In Twitter, fans are also tweeting messages for White's fast recovery.
