"Exodus: Gods and Kings" movie has gained controversy about race and religious beliefs and Christian Bale shared his views, New York Daily News reported.
The "Exodus: Gods and Kings" film has been heavily criticized for choosing white people to play lead roles while hiring black actors to portray as slaves. Other than that, the bible's miraculous Red Sea parting was attributed to earthquake and science in the movie, which earned protests from evangelical Christians.
Bale played as the lead role Moses in the film and addressed the detractors in an interview.
"It's incredible how many people have such very strong opinions, almost demands, about how Moses must be played. I came to realize, Okay, I have to take a leap of faith here under Ridley's guidance - and we have to forge our own portrayal," the actor said.
The Hollywood star also revealed his thoughts about religion.
"My father was not fond of organized religion but had very many friends who were priests. It benefited myself and my family, when we were without a home for some time and were put up by a wonderful lady, a religious lady. So I could see the unity it can bring, and the charity," Bale revealed.
On the other hand, director Ridley Scott addressed the criticisms on the movie's premiere night. "I say, Get a life" was his short response, Associated Press reported.
Joel Edgerton who played as Pharaoh Ramses in the film also has something important to say.
"On one hand I go, look, I think that's a valid, valid argument to have, not just about our movie, about Hollywood in general -- as long as it's a progressive one, to have those conversations before movies are made. ... The other side of the argument for me is, you give me an opportunity to go work with Ridley Scott and opposite Christian Bale, and don't take that opportunity away from me once I decide it's within my grasp. And it's also just a movie," Edgerton said, according to Huffington Post.
The controversies hounding the movie may have contributed to the positive box office sales. Over the weekend, "Exodus: Gods and Kings" gained more than $23 million in international sales.
