Men stupid deaths - More men die from stupid deaths than women because they are more likely to attempt extremely risky and idiotic behaviors with fatal consequences, a recent study reveals.
Reports indicate that researchers came to the conclusion after studying and discovering that the majority of the recipients of the Darwin Award were men.
The Darwin Award has been in existence for the past 2 decades and honors people who lose their lives under the most stupid circumstance.
"Winners of The Darwin Awards must eliminate themselves from the gene pool in such an idiotic manner that their action ensures one less idiot will survive," the reports reads.
The theory of the male stupid deaths was published as part of a blithe Christmas edition of the British Medical Journal, which is renowned for serious medical research. Scientist used the Darwin Award records as a basis to examine if men were prone to taking more risks - particularly idiotic ones - than women.
Before arriving at their conclusion, researchers examined over 300 cases from the Darwin Award's database. All nominees of the dark humorous award from 1995 to 2014 must be verifiable and the people must have been of sound mind, while exhibiting extremely low levels of common sense.
"Idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non-existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final," said Dr Dennis Lendrem of the University of Newcastle who was part of the researchers.
Researchers discovered that out 318 cases examined just 36 were women, while about 282 (88.7 percent) of the Darwin Award winners were men.
"This finding is entirely consistent with male idiot theory (MIT) and supports the hypothesis that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things," the report read.
The theory also discovered that more men were admitted to emergency departments following accidental injuries or dangerous sport related injuries. And more men are likely to lose their lives in traffic accidents than women.
The reports noted that the negative effects of alcohol and other intoxicants play a huge role in the conclusions supporting MIT.
Despite the findings of the male stupid deaths, researchers have said it is possible that many cases of women being involved in extremely stupid actions that lead to their deaths are not reported as often as male idiotic behaviors.
"Despite these limitations there can be little doubt that Darwin Award winners seem to make little of no real assessment of the risk or attempt at risk management. They just do it anyway," the reports added.
Past winners of the Darwin Award includes a terrorist, who opened his letter bomb after it was returned, because the stamps he used to post it were not sufficient. Another winner shot and killed himself with a spy pen to show his friend that the weapon was real.
