Lance Stephenson would not mind being moved to the Brooklyn Nets, should the Charlotte Hornets pursue a trade with his hometown team in the coming weeks, a source close to situation reported on Thursday.
After landing a three-year, $27 million deal with the Hornets last summer, it looks like the end of Stephenson's playing days in Charlotte is coming as reports indicated that the mercurial wingman is drawing interest from at least four teams.
Grantland NBA writer Zach Lowe broke the news that the Hornets are interested to part ways with almost all of their players except Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson, if given an enticing offer on their table.
"The Hornets are searching for upgrades on the wing and at power forward, per those sources, and they are willing to talk turkey on basically anyone other than Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson," Lowe reported.
"Free agents signed this past offseason can't be traded until December 15, and few would be surprised if the Hornets make and take calls on Lance Stephenson ahead of that trigger date."
According to Shams Charania of Real GM, there are four teams that already inquired about Stephenson's availability on the trading block, one of them is the Brooklyn Nets.
"Lance Stephenson has garnered fresh trade inquiries into the Charlotte Hornets' front office recently and wouldn't be opposed to a potential move to the Brooklyn Nets, but hopes to remain part of and succeed in his partnership with the Hornets," league sources told RealGM.
"As a native of Brooklyn, New York, Stephenson attended Lincoln High School in Coney Island. Privately, Stephenson, 24, has unconditional affection for the city and hopes to play for the Nets in the borough at some point in his career."
Stephenson is a viable trade target for the Nets since they direly need a dynamic player that would help them ignite their championships aspirations. They have already placed some of their key stars on the trading block with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez all up for grabs.
Among the three players, Lopez appears to be the most enticing trade target not only because he's $15million per season is the cheapest than Williams ($20M) and Johnson ($23M), but he's just 26-year old and he can still become an impact player for more years to come.
Acquiring Lopez in exchange for Stephenson would give the Hornets another skillful seven-footer alongside Al Jefferson, though this potential trade is far from done as other teams have also made their pitches for the service of the former Stanford big man.
