Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao Faceoff To Happen On May 2; Boxers’ Legacies Threatened?

Speculations about the much-anticipated Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao faceoff have been spreading lately. And this time, Mayweather has finally broken his silence over the issue and announced that he wanted to fight the Filipino multi-weight champ on May 2.

On Friday night, Floyd Mayweather Jr. spoke about the fight in a broadcast interview on Showtime while at the Erislandy Lara-Ishe Smith match. As reported by the Boxing Scene, the pound for pound king finally outlined his desire for a faceoff versus long-time rival Manny Pacquiao.

"Absolutely, I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao," Mayweather said. "We are ready. Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Pacquiao. Let's do it."

"We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing," Floyd Mayweather Jr. added. "I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he's in a very, very tight situation. He's lost to Marquez, he's lost to Bradley and pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He's desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I'm just waiting on them."

Meanwhile, Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao has promised to chase Floyd Mayweather Jr. into the highly-anticipated brawl next year, Sky Sports reported.

"[Mayweather] has reached a dead end. He has nowhere to run but to fight me," Pacquiao said. "I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight. But I doubt if he's gonna engage me in a slugfest. You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep."

The Filipino champ, Manny Pacquiao, is a winner of an unprecedented eight world titles in different weight classes. Late Saturday, Yahoo! Sports reported that if the fight will happen, Pacquiao, who turns 36 on Wednesday, asaid he will fight 39-year-old Mayweather as he did to the recently undefeated American, Chris Algieri, who was defeated by Pacquiao in their Macau showdown.

"I know what I have to do. I will chase him wherever he goes just in case he decides to run around the ring. We will devise a good fight plan against him," Pacquiao additionally stated.

As the faceoff between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquaio is about to happen, the talks about who gets the much bigger price money also seemed to intensify, in which Pacquiao has reiterated that the division of purse in not an issue for him.

"Mayweather can get the amount he wants. As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight," Pacquiao said. "This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing."

The legacies of both boxing champs Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have certainly not been paved yet. They still have something to prove, first to themselves and then to all the rest.

If the 2015 faceoff between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will push through, the fight will definitely the biggest and will surely make a difference in the world of boxing.
