TV Meteorologist Shot - A manhunt is underway for a suspect who shot a meteorologist outside a Texas TV stations's parking lot on Wednesday morning.
Texas police say Patrick Crawford, KCEN-TV's morning meteorologist, was shot several times with a semi-automatic handgun around 9:15 a.m at Waco, Bruceville-Eddy.
Crawford was in his vehicle in the parking lot when the suspect, described as a Caucasian male between the ages of 30-to-35, approached him. The pair hand an argument before the suspect opened fire on Crawford.
Local sources say despite being fatally shot, Crawford was able to drive away about 200 yards from the scene of the crime before crashing on the 1-35 feeder road, where construction workers found him and administered first aid before calling 911 for help.
Reports indicate that the meteorologist was transported to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas, where he underwent surgery.
Doctors say despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the arm and body he was doing well and recovering. Crawford is not listed as being in a stable condition.
Trooper D. L Wilson of the Texas Department of Public Safety said investigations are underway. It still isn't clear what Crawford and the unidentified suspect argued about and what may have been the motive for the fatal shooting.
"We're going to do whatever possible to get this guy," Wilson said. "We're not going to rest until this is dealt with. We want to make sure this community is safe and it's our job to do so."
Authorities say the meteorologist, who has been working at the station for over two years now, saved his life by speeding away from the crime scene.
"He did an excellent job getting in the car, speeding off and probably saved his life," Wilson said.
Reports indicate that authorities put the station on lockdown following the shooting. All KCEN employees were assembled in an office, while police using k-9 units combed the area for the suspect.
Texas officials later lifted the station's lockdown after hours of searching for the suspect who is described as having receding hair line and wearing a dark jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.
Several schools in the area were also put on lockdown. Officials cautioned homeowners to keep their properties locked and to alert the police if they notice suspicious activities.
