99-Year-Old Woman Robbed - Police have arrested a teenager who knocked down an elderly lady and snatched her purse on Wednesday morning just outside of the LP Wilson Community Center on Matianuck Avenue, Winsdsor.
The unidentified teenager, who was taken into custody just over 24 hours after his reprehensible crime, has been charged with robbery, larceny and assaulting an elderly person.
Windsor Police mounted a search for the suspect after some officers responded to a 911 call from the Community Center just before 9:00 a.m about the 99-year-old woman robbed.
Reports indicate that the unidentified 99-year-old woman robbed was delivering cookies to the Community Center. The 17-year-old suspect reportedly knocked her down and got away with her purse.
The 99-year-old woman robbed did not sustain any serious injuries from her fall. Reports indicate that family members were contacted to take her home.
"It was disappointing to see right before the holidays...there's laws and statutes that protect that segment of our population. I know a lot of folks were very upset about it when they heard what the offense that had occurred," Sgt. Christopher McKee of the local police department said.
It is unclear how the police were able to identify and locate the suspect who robbed the elderly woman. Earlier on Wednesday, K9 units were used to search for the suspect in the area. Workers from the Community Center and the Board of Education, who share the same Windsor building adjacent to the crime scene, reportedly cooperated with the police during the initial hunt for the suspect.
It is also unclear if the suspect had spent the money and also how much was originally in the purse of the 99-year-old woman robbed. The unidentified teenager, who has been described as being of African American descent, will be held in a Juvenile detention center until he is scheduled to appear in court.
