Shailene Woodley clarified issues surrounding her supposedly anti-feminist statement, The Inquisitr reported.
Feminism has become such a hot topic this year that celebrities such as Beyonce, Emma Watson and Taylor Swift have shown their support about the subject. Unlike the mentioned stars, Shailene Woodley is not a feminist and her views on the topic have been criticized.
Woodley clarified her previous statement about feminism with Entertainment Weekly.
"For me the big thing in life is about sisterhood. Bringing sisters together and supporting one another...What I found so funny and so sad about that article is that I talked about that the entire time. Nothing is going to change in this world until women start loving other women. I'm so lucky. I have the best sisters in my life. The best," Woodley said.
It can be recalled that the "Insurgent" star has shared her views on feminism and why it is not for her in an interview with TIME magazine last May.
"I love men, and I think the idea of 'raise women to power, take the men away from the power' is never going to work out because you need balance. With myself, I'm very in touch with my masculine side," Woodley declared.
The actress continued to discuss what is important for her.
"And I'm 50 percent feminine and 50 percent masculine, same as I think a lot of us are. And I think that is important to note. And also I think that if men went down and women rose to power, that wouldn't work either. We have to have a fine balance," she added.
The interview spread around social media and netizens criticized Woodley. Some Twitter users shared how they find the actress' statement about feminism as ignorance.
Margh with username @marghaery from Twiiter wrote: "why is shailene woodley still allowed to talk about feminism when she clearly has not idea what she's talking about."
The actress was pitted against self-confessed feminists such as Beyonce.
Khaleesi with Twitter username @Wjlly posted: "White feminists will PRAISE Shailene Woodley, who's blatantly said she dislikes feminism while trying to destroy Beyoncé."
Meanwhile, Woodley's clarification about the feminism issue can be heard in an audio clip uploaded on SoundCloud.
