Amy Adams was reportedly dumped out of an interview on NBC's "Today Show" after she declined to address questions focused around the Sony hack controversy. The incident occurred Monday when Adams came to the set and was told by a producer that she would be asked about the hacking issue. The "Man of Steel" actress replied that she would prefer to avoid the topic.
The "Today Show" just abruptly cancelled Amy Adams appearance to promote her latest movie, "Big Eyes" after a disagreement over Sony hack questions. Since it was a four-minute interview, the 40-year-old actress told the show that she would prefer to avoid the subject. According to Deadline, she was told that "Today" is a news organization and no one dictates the restrictions of their interviews.
On late Monday, The Weinstein Co. (TWC), the "Big Eyes" distributor, released a statement condemning "Today" show's decision in cancelling Amy Adams' appearance on the morning program. USA Today reported, Adams' was called off just before going on air.
"Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that 'Today' would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable [discussing]," TWC's statement read. "We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We've been lucky enough to have her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off the set."
NBC's "Today Show" also released a statement citing that Amy Adams had made "demands," Us Weekly reported.
"As a news program, the Today show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews," the show's statement read. "In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview."
Actress Amy Adams is in New York for a "Today Show" guesting to promote her film, "Big Eyes," which is directed by Tim Burton. And it is quite sad that the actress was pulled out of a guesting over the Sony hack scandal since TWC's "Big Eyes" is a film about artist Margaret Keane and has no association in any way with the Sony controversy.
Amy Adams' "Big Eyes" is totally unconnected with the Sony hack outrage. However, The Daily Beast reported that the email leaks from Sony Pictures chairman Amy Pascal revealed that Adams, along with "American Hustle" costar Jennifer Lawrence, earned salaries 2 percent lower compared to their male counterparts, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale.
Although Amy Adams was prepared to explain her thoughts over the Sony scandal, "Today Show" just ripped off her segment and completely wasted her time.
