NBA Rumors: Warriors Having Internal Discussion to Sign Ray Allen

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly having internal discussion to make a hard push for the service of free-agent shooting guard Ray Allen, Bay Area News Group reporter Tim Kawakami reported.

The Warriors, who currently boast the best record in the NBA with 23-4, are still angling to add more firepower to their already potent lineup, and sources indicated the 39-year old Allen is on top of their wish list.

According to Tim Kawakami, the Warriors' interest in Allen stemmed on their need to have another shooter on their second unit. While Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson has been a deadly tandem so far in the season, the Warriors offense is noticeably taking a big hit everytime their starting backcourt sits out.

The Bay Area analysts believe having the luxury of Allen coming off the bench would provide the Warriors another weapon to rely on. Although he would be a liability on the defensive end, Allen is nevertheless capable of delivering the goods, especially during tight situations.

"Allen would obviously not be a defensive force, but can you imagine closing a game with Curry, Thompson and Allen on the floor at the same time? I know the Warriors can and have," Kawakami opined.

"Plus Allen could at least give the Warriors 10 minutes a game at the SG alongside Livingston, and you know he'd space the floor. But again, Allen has given no indication that he's interested in joining the Warriors-it still sounds like Cleveland is his first option if he comes back."

The Cavs have repeatedly been mentioned as front-runners to sign Allen because of his association with LeBron James and other former Miami Heat players. However, Allen has not given any clear indication about his potential destination or a comeback for his 19th NBA season. Aside from the Cavs and the Warriors, the San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Clippers have shown interest.
