Miley Cyrus freed her nipples on an Instagram portrait in support for the "Free the Nipple" campaign in protest for social media censorship. When it comes to being naked, the 22-year-old pop star is one who never censors herself. And on Saturday, Cyrus posted another topless shot on photo-sharing site, Instagram.
In a black and white Instagram post on Dec. 27, Miley Cyrus flaunted her top assets to show her support for the "Free the Nipple" campaign. The Daily Mail described Cyrus' photo as she was laying bare-skinned in bed as "she stares off in the distance."
"Some lame a** deff gonna (flag) dat (s***) but f********k it #practicewhatchupreach #FreeTheNipple #freedats***," Miley Cyrus captioned her racy Instagram post.
Miley Cyrus' topless shot on Instagram came after Chelsea Handler's protested the female censorship on social media sites. According to the New York Daily News, Cyrus decided to join the "Free the Nipple" campaign with a string of nudity-themed images.
The "Free the Nipple" campaign aims to "empower women across the world," the Gossip Cop reported. According to the organization's Web site, they "stand against female oppression and censorship" in the US and globally. The organization is also working to transform "inequalities" through movies, social media and public campaign.
The campaign became a "real life" equality movement, which fueled national discourse. According to E! News, celebrities and influencers such as Miley Cyrus, Lena Dunham, Liv Tyler, Rumer Willis and Scout Willis have expressed their public support to "Free the Nipple" movement.
Miley Cyrus' topless Instagram picture showed her support for the "Free The Nipple" campaign, which earned global popularity and instigated a viral #FreeTheNipple drive that addresses the concerns for "equal rights for men and women, a more balanced system of censorship and legal rights for all women to breastfeed in public."
In the 35 US states today, it is unlawful for a woman to go topless. And it can lead to up to three years of imprisonment and cost $2,500 in fines.
Miley Cyrus has been an advocate for the "Free the Nipple" campaign. The Hollywood Gossip said Cyrus along with other celebrity supporters aim to end the media's veneration of violence and inhibition of nudity.
In an interview with BBC's Newsbeat, Miley Cyrus has expressed her confusion and frustrations about the "double standards" on social media, E! News reported.
"Guys get to show their titties on the beach, why can't we? I don't understand the double standard of life," the singer said. "I feel like I'm one of the biggest feminists in the world, because I tell women to not be scared of anything."
Miley Cyrus' "Free the Nipple" Instagram photo is just one of the several topless shots posted on social media, which shows a protest against the contradictions of the media-ruled realm, where violent practices and killings are glorified while tasteful portraits of a female body are censored.
Just like Miley Cyrus, several have also questioned the media's double standards since racy "Free the Nipple" photos have been removed on social media site, Instagram. So are we living in a world where female species are inferior? And which is more obscene: Nudity or Violence?
