LA Police Officers Attacked - Despite turning up one suspect short after searching all night long, Los Angeles police officers are upbeat that the gunmen who opened fire on a patrol car on Sunday night will be brought to book.
Reports indicate that two police officers patrolling along 62and and Hoover Avenue came under fire by two unidentified suspects around 9:30 p.m.
According to KTLA, one of the officers returned fire. None of the officers sustained injuries from the incident. It is unclear if the suspects were sustained any injuries during the exchanges.
LAPD Detective Megan Aguilar, who spoke to the station, said the two LA officers attacked are from the 77th Division and were responding to an unrelated call before they came under fire.
Police responded to the incident within minutes and cordoned off several blocks from where the shooting occurred. Up to 50 officers were reportedly involved the search that included a helicopter and K9 units.
Aguilar has revealed that one suspect has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, the search continues for one accomplice. He said the police have no name or description of the suspect, but are working on some "leads."
The attack on the LA police officers has been juxtaposed with the gruesome murder of two New York police officers in Brooklyn about a week ago.
Lt. Andy Neiman, who spoke to LA Times, said there is a "sense of uneasiness" about the incident. "The people who shot at these officers knew they were the police," he said, after commenting on the inescapable black and white color official color of police vehicles.
Neiman has revealed that investigators recovered a pistol from the scene. He also noted that while the search will continue, SWAT and county officers will no more be actively involved in the search.
Reports indicate that the blocks between Gage and 62nd street will remain closed for at least 6 hours while the search for the elusive shooter continues. The police has asked anyone with information about the shocking attack on the LA police officers to call 9-1-1.
The LAPD 77th Street Community Police Station has also informed residents of 52nd Street and Hoover about the presence of the shooter in the area through Facebook and implored them to "Please keep our Officers in your thoughts and prayers!"
