Giada De Laurentis has recently announced her divorce to husband Todd Thompson after 11 years of marriage. On Monday night, the 44-year-old Food Network chef shared the news on her Facebook page. The now ex-couple got married in May 25, 2003 and have one child, 6-year-old Jade Marie, E! News reported.
After several months of living separately, Giada De Laurentiis and her fashion designer husband Todd Thompson finally filed for divorce. Page Six reported De Laurentiis met Thompson more than two decades ago, when she was just a 19-year-old college student and her ex-husband was 20-years old.
"When we first met, I didn't have any money because I was in college, and he paid every time we went out to dinner," she revealed in a 2011 Redbook interview. "So I'd show my love for him by making a meal. And to this day, that is one of the ways that I show how much I appreciate him. Even when I'm not in town, I'll prepare menus for him and Jade so he can just heat meals up."
Also during the interview, Giada De Laurentiis, who has announced her divorce on Monday, shared some insights into her marriage, particularly when it comes to being famous, USA Today reported.
"I think it can be hard for any man to sometimes be upstaged by his wife," the celebrity chef stated. "So when I'm home, I work very hard to be Todd's wife and Jade's mother. I have no problem going back to those traditional roles."
"I try to be Giada, the young girl that he met 20 years ago and fell in love with," De Laurentiis added. "All men want to be treated like kings in a relationship, and I think if women don't indulge that sometimes, their men are likely to stray and look for someone who can give that to them. It's simple. It's not brain surgery."
Meanwhile, in a Facebook message posted on Monday night, Giada De Laurentiis announced her divorce.
"After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage," she posted. "Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family's happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths."
"Todd and I share a beautiful daughter and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything," Giada De Laurentiis added on her divorce announcement message. "We are so thankful for our friends and family, and really appreciate the support in this time of change."
However, The Daily Mail said Giada De Laurentiis' social media statement did not mention if divorce proceedings had begun. The couple's separation came after 11 years of marriage.
