Doe Attacks Hunter - A wounded doe deer that had been injured with an arrow in eastern Wisconsin sent the elderly hunter who shot her to the hospital after she attacked him by plunging at his feet with her head.
Reports indicate that the incident happened on Friday, Jan. 2 in Taycheedah. The unidentified 72 years old hunter, who had been hunting with his family, reportedly shot down the deer with an arrow. Shortly afterwards, he approached the site where the deer had fallen to check on his game when the doe attacked the hunter.
Fond du Lac Sheriff' Officer Jeff Bonack says the hunter may not have seen the doe before it attacked him. "Apparently the man was going through some thick brush and the deer leaped out and went after him," Bonack told Fond du Lac Reporter. He revealed that the doe attacked the hunter by striking his feet with her head.
It is unclear how old and how big the doe that attacked the hunter was. The condition of the unidentified hunter is also uncertain. Konack speculates that the vengeful deer got away after the incident.
Meanwhile, the injured hunter's relatives, who were present with him, called for help. He was later taken to the St. Agnes Hospital via an ambulance. It is unclear how his condition is currently.
The 'Doe attacks hunter' story has gone viral since it broke a few days ago. Experts say although deer attacks are rare, they do occur. Doe attacks are thought to be the rarest as they lack antlers used by male deers for defense. That aside, the mode of attack - with the head - is reportedly consistent with deer attacks. Deers are also known to strike with their hooves.
It is unclear what the extent of the deer's injury is and if it will survive. Reports indicate that it was struck in the leg with the hunter's arrow.
