"Taken 3" Review - This 2015, Liam Neeson will finally end his "Taken" journey with its final installment set to be released on Jan. 9. "Taken 3" is the sequel to the 2008 film "Taken" and 2012's "Taken 2." Aside from Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen will be reprising their roles from the last two films while Forest Whitaker will make his debut.
According to the "Taken 3" synopsis, ex-government operative Bryan Mills (Neeson) is accused for killing his ex-wife Lenore (Janssen) as she was found dead on his apartment, Times of India cited. Then as Mills is being tracked and pursued, he brings out his particular set of skills to find the true killer, clear his name and protect his daughter Kim (Grace).
Though "Taken 3" promises some action-filled sequences, it received generally negative reviews from movie critics. As said by A.V. Club, a lot of things are wrong with the final "Taken" adventure. But who's to be blamed? Well, the site said filmmaker Olivier Megaton was not able to mount good action scenes and just took the "quantity-over-quality approach."
"Making good on his name, Megaton takes the quantity-over-quality approach," A.V. Club said. "Executing a flurry of cuts across as many sloppy angles as possible, producing a gurgling brownish soup of photochemical textures and handheld jitters."
Moreover, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic also indicated generally unfavorable reviews. While IGN and The Telegraph cited the film became boring credited to its massive fault in action. And Forbes blatantly said "Taken 3" is a "stunningly wrongheaded action sequel."
"Hampered by toothless PG-13 action sequences, incoherent direction, and a hackneyed plot, Taken 3 serves as a clear signal that it's well past time to retire this franchise," Rotten Tomatoes' general consensus reads.
Other media sites' reviews also said that "Taken 3" has become an ineffectual action outcome.
"The third and presumably final installment of the Liam Neeson action franchise is a mind-numbing, crash-bang misfire," Variety said. While Vulture stated, "The concept is lame, and the execution is lame, too. The more the film advances, the less we care about the plot."
Despite the unfavorable reviews, "Taken 3" is off with a good start in the box office taking in $1.6 million on its opening day, Deadline reported.
While "Taken 3" is foreseen to rake millions at the box office, but its reviews might cause a huge decline for the film on its second week.
