A massive earthquake of 8.7 magnitude hit the western part of Indonesia, Aceh on Wednesday. Following the quake, a tusnami warning was issued to 28 countries by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii. There was no reports of casualties or damage.

Dec. 26, 2004 Indonesia - A magnitude 9.1 quake struck off the western Coast of Indonesia, on the Aceh province.

It was followed by a tsunami that killed more than 227,898 in Indian Ocean countries; Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, India and nine other countries.

March 11, 2011 Japan- An earthquake of 9.0 magnitude struck Japan, causing 20896 fatalities.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was verified at a depth of 15.1 miles and located at 81 miles east of Sendai, on the main island of Honshu.

Feb. 27 2010 Chile- an 8.8 magnitude quake and subsequent tsunami in Chile killed more than 507 people.

April 11, 2012 Indonesia- A huge 8.7 magnitude quake struck Indonesia's Aceh province, some 308 miles southwest of the province's capital Banda Aceh. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued Tsunami alerts to 28 countries.

March 28, 2005 Indonesia- An earthquake of 8.6 magnitude hit the Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake claimed 1313 lives.

Sept. 2007 Indonesia- An earthquake of 8.5 struck Southern part of Sumatera in Indonesia and it claimed 25 lives.

June 23, 2001 Peru- An earthquake of 8.4 magnitude struck near the coast of Peru. It claimed 138 lives.

Oct. 04, 1994 Kuril Islands- An earthquake of 8.3 hit the island nation. It was followed by a tsunami of more than 3 m height. It claimed 11 people.

Sept. 2002 Japan- Anearthquake of 8.3 magnitude hit the Hokkaido region of Japan. No fatalities reported.

Feb. 17, 1995 Indonesia- An earthquake of 8.2 magnitude hit the Irian Jaya Region. It claimed 166 lives.
