Why A Widow Choose To Live On A Cruise Ship For A Decade?

An 86-year-old widow, Lee Wachtstatter, has lived on a cruise ship for more than a decade. Her decision to ditch her Florida home came after her husband's death more than 10 years ago. In an interview with USA Today, Wachtstatter took the advice of her daughter and became a resident of a luxury cruise liner.

Wachtstatter, the widow who lives on a cruise ship, followed her husband's dying message to continue cruising and sold her 10-acre, 5-bedroom Fort Lauderdale-area residence and spent living on board a cruise liner. According to The Telegraph, Lee has lived on a Holland America ship for three years and been a resident on the Crystal Serenity for seven years, which is longer than the time spent of the vessel's 655 crew members. Because of her stay, the crew gave her a nickname, "Mama Lee."

"My husband Mason introduced me to cruising," the widow who lives on a cruise ship said. "He was a banker and real estate appraiser and taught me to love cruising. During our 50-year marriage we took 89 cruises. I've done nearly a hundred more and 15 world cruises. The day before my husband died of cancer in 1997, he told me, 'Don't stop cruising.' So here I am..."

But Wachtstatter also said that she stopped counting when she reached the 100th mark.

"I stopped counting after 100." she stated. "Just say I've been to almost any country that has a port."

Because of her numerous cruises, Mama Lee rarely leaves the liner since she has already seen most of the places. However, the widow who lives on a cruise ship revealed that there is one location that will always be an exception - Istanbul.

"I can't resist the Grand Bazaar," Wachstetter explained. "You can find gorgeously regal or glitzy outfits there, perfect for formal or casual wear and not terribly expensive. I have to restrain myself every time because of my limited cabin space"

Because Mama Lee misses her family - three sons and seven grandchildren (her daughter has already died) - she still talks with them through her laptop and visits them whenever she's in Miami, Inquisitr reported.

Although Mama Lee has no mortgage to pay, the widow who lives on a cruise ship revealed that she pays $164,000 annually to live on the 1,070 passenger vessel Crystal Serenity, The Huffington Post cited. While Serenity's director Hubert Buelacher shared that there are three other women who lived on the liner, nobody outranked Wachtstatter.

Since Lee Wachtstatter is celebrating her 87th birthday soon, Examiner revealed that the widow who lives in a cruise ship is quite excited in commemorating another year in her life while she continues globe-trotting.
