Andrae Crouch Funeral - Hundreds of people have gathered at a Church in Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles, to honor the memory of late gospel music legend Andrae Crouch, who died earlier this month.
There will also be another service to mark the memory of Andrae Crouch at the same venue on Wed, Jan. 21st.
The star-studded funerals, which are being streamed live from the West Angeles Church of God, will include performances from some of the biggest names in gospel music such as Marvin Winans, Donnie McClurkin, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Dr. Bobby Jones, Shirley Caesar, Bryant Duncan and many other renowned artists, as well as an 80-person choir made up of people who worked with Crouch during his long career.
There will also be video tributes from many renowned Christian figures, including Bishop T.D Jakes and Bishop Noel Jones, as well as an appearance by Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Andrae Crouch, who is often credited with being the 'father of modern gospel music,' had a knack for fusing contemporary rhythms in his gospel songs. This made him have more listeners than many gospel artists.
The Soon and Very Soon singer worked with some of the biggest names in secular music, including Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Elton John. He also made the soundtracks to the movie The Color Purple, Lion King and ABC sitcom Amen.
Andrae Crouch was born in California on July 1, 1942. He shot into popularity in the 1960s as part of a gospel music group known as The Disciples.Crouch later left the group to pursue a successful solo music career, which landed him 7 Grammy Awards, as well as several GMA Dove Awards and a place in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Crouch died on Jan 8 at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center after a heart attack a few days earlier got him hospitalized.
