"Miss Universe" 2014 Results - Last night, one of the world's most prestigious beauty pageants concluded with a bang! Yes, with a bang of controversies and protests over the crowned winner. The 63rd Annual "Miss Universe" competition has been both very challenging and dramatic and its finale was as controversial as ever.
Paulina Vega of Colombia was hailed as the new reigning titleholder of the "Miss Universe" 2014 pageant during its results night on Sunday, Jan. 25. We initially reported that candidates from Colombia, USA, Jamaica, Ukraine and Netherlands were named as the top five finalists. While the special awards of the evening went to Elvira Devinamira of Indonesia for "Best in National Costume," Nigeria's Queen Celestine for "Miss Congeniality Universe" and Gabriela Berrios of Puerto Rico for "Miss Photogenic Universe"
But when the runners up and the winner were announced at the "Miss Universe" 2014 competition results night, The Daily Mail shared instead of the usual chorus of cheers, Doral's FIU Arena audience exploded into boos of outrage over the announcement.
During the pageant's finale, Paulina Vega of Colombia was crowned as "Miss Universe" 2014 winner, USA's Nia Sanchez was the first runner-up, Diana Harkusha of Ukraine was the 2nd, Netherlands' Yasmin Verheijen landed as the 3rd and Kaci Fennell of Jamaica nailed the 4th place.
Right after the announcements were made, social media erupted in fury over the "Miss Universe" 2014 results. Miss Jamaica's name began to trend on Twitter along with the hashtag #MissJamaicaShouldHaveWon and #MissJamaicaWasRobbed.
Meanwhile, along with the protests of the "Miss Universe" 2014 results, the social media also exploded with an array of negative comments about the pageant's Q&A portion. According to the Washington Post, the interview segment was the most awkward part of the competition.

Question for Colombia: "What could women learn from men?"
"I believe that women...I do believe in equality - and I believe that that is women should learn from men," Vega responded.
For Jamaica: "1 of 3 women will experience violence in her lifetime. What can be done to get that number down?"
"Crime is a global phenomenon, it does not just affect just one nation. We as people of the world should work together to prevent it now," Fennell answered.
Ukraine: "If you could remove the swimsuit pageant for Miss Universe competition, would you?"
"It depends on the situation. If it's gonna be nice, why not? I feel comfortable in anything. Thank you," Harkusha stated.
Netherlands: "What's the biggest change you'd like to see for young women in the next generation?"
"I'm an ambassador for child prostitution. I want it to stop, so that's what I want for the next generation," Verheijen replied.
USA: "If you were given 30 seconds to deliver a message to a global terrorist, what would you say?"
"I would just say that I know as Miss USA I can always spread a message of hope and love and peace," USA's Sanchez retorted.
The top 5 finalists also answered a question chosen from the Facebook posts (#FinalQuestion). And the question was: "What is the greatest contribution of your country to the entire world?"
"We have a wonderful influence on the world...we can give back as much as we can," USA stated.
"I'm born and raised in Amsterdam, and Amsterdam is one of the most learned cities in the world, a lot of art and history, and I'm very proud of that," Miss Netherlands said.
"Now we have a very difficult situation in our country," Ukraine responded. "And right now the very most important contribution is to direct all of our energies to support our army and our people. We have to restore schools, we have restore kindergartens and orphanages."
"Well, as we all know, we are the home to Bob Marley and the fastest man trailblazing the Jamaican flag," Jamaica answered.
"My country has been an example for the rest of the countries," Colombia's Vega replied. "We are persevering people no matter what is in our way. We continue fighting for what we want to accomplish."
