Johnny Manziel, the famed Cleveland Browns quarterback, has finally decided to seek medical help and has entered a rehabilitation facility for a few weeks. ESPN reported the 22-year-old NFL player entered the rehab last Wednesday.
Johnny Manziel is a professional football quarterback for the NFL's Cleveland Browns. In the world of American football, he is known by his nickname, "Johnny Football." Though he has a very remarkable career and stats, he constantly made headlines for his unstoppable partying lifestyle since the day he was drafted.
According to a family friend and advisor, Browns' QB Johnny Manziel voluntarily entered a treatment facility last Wednesday to get the help he needs because of his lifestyle away from the field, Cleveland.com revealed.
"Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Manziel and his family, has confirmed that Johnny entered treatment on Wednesday," Manziel's publicist stated. "Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate, and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step. On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."
After a season of making more headlines for nonstop partying rather than field performance, Johnny Manziel finally sought help and entered a rehab program last week. However, The Washington Post said neither the name of the facility nor the problem was revealed and specified.
Manziel wasted no time living his life. The New York Post reported he spent Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas with the Patriots' Rob Gronkowski. During the summer, he partied with Drake, Floyd Mayweather and Justin Bieber. By June, he was photographed lying on an inflatable swan, chugging a bottle of liquor. Then in July, he was seen in a bathroom, appearing to roll up cash.
And as Johnny Manziel's rookie season continued, some warning signs that the Browns' QB might be addicted to alcohol started to show. According to The Daily Mail, he entered the rehab for his hard-partying antics that resulted with a fine in December.
Meanwhile, Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer stated that the team is supporting Manziel for entering rehab.
"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process," Farmer said. "Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns. We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player. Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."
Johnny Manziel's decision to enter a rehab program is not a sign of surrender nor cowardice but it's more of being brave in accepting mistakes and doing something to change it.
