Kevin Bollaert - A 28-year-old man in San Diego has been found guilty of running a pornographic site that allowed males to post nude photos of their ex-partners.
Kevin Bollaert, who is believed to have made about $30,000 from his UGotPosted.com website, reportedly added the personal details of people that appeared on his website, including their names, addresses, phone numbers and links to their social media pages.
During Bollaert's trial, many victims of the site complained about their reputation being damaged and suffering emotional trauma after they appeared on the revenge porn site.
Prosecutors say Bollaert ran the infamous website for less than a year between 2012 and 2013 and about 10,000 images were uploaded to the website during that time. Investigators reportedly looked into the case for several months before he was arrested.
Reports indicate that when some of the people who appeared on the revenge porn site complained to the web administrator, Bollaert redirected them to another website - ChangeMyReputation.com -, which he also ran. Bollaert allegedly charged his victims up to $350 to have their pictures taken down from his website.
Emily Rose-Weber, who represented Bollaert at the San Diego Superior Court, argued in the suspect's defense saying that he only ran the website and wasn't directly responsible for its contents. But the court failed to concur with her reasoning and Bollaert was found guilty of about 27 felony counts, including extortion.
Reports indicate that he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison when the court resumes his case in April.
Since the State of California officially approved a bill that proscribed harsh penalties for people found guilty of revenge porn in 2013, just one person has been convicted. Bollaert is actually the first person to be found guilty of running a revenge porn website in the state.
California Attorney General Kamala Harris explained that Bollaert knew he could easily manipulate his victims. She said he made his victims feel as "small" and "isolated" as possible.
