'Seventh Son' Unites ‘Narnia’, ‘Man Of Steel’ And ‘Game Of Thrones’ Stars But End Up Creating A Lousy Fantasy Adventure Film?

"Seventh Son" is an epic fantasy movie helmed by Sergei Bodrov, which has a scheduled release date in the United States on Feb. 6, 2015. Though its release date was changed several times, Forbes revealed it still share the same showing slot with co-competitor, "Jupiter Ascending" and both films will receive IMAX Experience treatment.

Comparable to its rival, "Seventh Son" has also been negatively panned by several movie critics. The film, which is based on a Joseph Delaney novel entitled, "The Spook's Apprentice," tells the tale of Thomas Ward. He is a seventh son of a seventh son and his adventures began when he became Spook's trainee.

The fantasy action film, "Seventh Son" will see Jeff Bridges play Master Gregory who will mentor a young Thomas Ward, played by Ben Barnes ("Prince Caspian in Narnia"), a prophesized hero born with the ability to fight evil creatures and evil magic. He will embark on a daring adventure with his mentor to defeat an evil army being formed by the evil witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore). Crossmap revealed other major actors set to appear in the film include Antje Traue ("Man of Steel"), Kit Harrington ("Game of Thrones"), and Djimon Hounsou.

Upon the release of the film, critics slammed its tired plot, special effects, lack of chemistry and the performances of the cast.

According to Variety, the movie was an "over-designed and under-conceived fantasy epic." While the Los Angeles Times said the film is definitely a contender for "the worst movie of the year."

Other critics have also pointed out the film's special effects.

"The 3-D effects are off-putting: Smoke spills out at the audience, and the camera swooshes high and careens over cliffs," USA Today said. "It's more dizzying than dazzling. Further mucking up the attempts at magical fantasy is a distracting, bombastic musical score and feeble attempts at humor. Seventh Son is thoroughly ill-conceived, a pale imitation of its more adventurous and breathtaking brethren."

As for Rotten Tomatoes, it also gave the "Seventh Son" quite a negative criticism.

"Seventh Son squanders an excellent cast and some strange storyline ingredients, leaving audiences with one disappointingly dull fantasy adventure," the site consensus reads.

Despite being a big-budget movie with a remarkable cast, "Seventh Son" was still not-well taken by critics. And together with co-competitor, "Jupiter Ascending," which are two of three major movie releases this weekend, the film might take a plunge on the box office.
