'Captain Marvel' News Update: Angeline Jolie Eyed as Film's Director? 'Female Director is a Priority'

Marvel is reportedly interested in hiring Angelina Jolie to direct "Captain Marvel," according to Games Radar.

The studio reportedly offered Jolie $20 million to direct the upcoming film after they were impressed with "Unbroken." Sources say that Marvel's priority is to have a female director for the movie since they wanted a "woman's touch." Jolie is reportedly grateful with the news after the mess from Sony's hacked emails.

Aside from "Unbroken," Jolie directed "In The Land of Blood and Honey" in 2011. Although Marvel films are not similar to the actress' previous works, her energy and drive in directing can bring a new approach to "Captain Marvel."

There are also speculations that aside from directing, Marvel also wants Jolie to star in the film. This may be possible since the Hollywood star can lure moviegoers and she can also portray as a "tough heroine" in an action film easily.

The actress has starred in action films in the past including the comic book adaptation "Wanted." Jolie's line of experience and star factor can make "Captain Marvel" more popular when it is released, Screen Rant reported.

Jolie may be a good choice to play the superhero but other rumors say that "Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer is another contender for the role. Fans loved Dormer's portrayal of Margaery Tyrell in the show. She also impressed the viewers as Cressida in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -Part 1," Crossmap reported.

As of this time, Marvel has not confirmed the news about Jolie and Dormer's involvement in "Captain Marvel." Dormer refused to comment on the reports and said that future projects are a "rabbit hole" to get into but she is willing to do films with good scripts.

"Captain Marvel" is described as the female counterpart of Superman. The superhero has the ability to fly and is undoubtedly super fast and strong. The film is set to be released on July 6, 2018.
