Movie critics revealed their first reviews for the erotic film "Fifty Shades of Grey," Telegraph reported.
The controversial movie gained mixed reviews from different sites. Some reports say that there is not enough sex scenes as the viewers has expected although the intimate moments summed up to 20 minutes out of the 100 total hours of the movie. The lead stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson reportedly had more PG rated kissing scenes.
Dornan was criticized by viewers saying that the actor "lacked sizzle." On the other hand, Johnson was described as a "real find" in "Fifty Shaded of Grey" and she was praised for her performance. The duo failed to have a hot chemistry but rather they have a "decent" one, according to The Independent.
The film was also compared to the vampire fiction "Twilight" saying that it was more of a copycat of the famous teenage film. The movie adaptation of E.L. James' novel was toned down and was transformed into a usual love story. The disturbing part in the book such as the tampon scene was omitted, Mashable reported.
Some critics may find the deleted scenes from the book as a negative move, there are also moviegoers who are happy with it. Movie critic Sheri Linden said that watching "Fifty Shades of Grey" is better than reading the novel since the viewer can avoid the cringe-worthy descriptions. The novel does not shy away from providing specific description of BDSM acts.
Elizabeth Wietzman from New York Daily News praised the movie's director Sam Taylor-Johnson and writer Kelly Marcel. Wietzman said that the pair removed the "biggest flaws" of the novel but delivered its essential parts. There are no shocking parts in the film even inside Christian Grey's toy room for sadism and masochism.
Despite all the mixed reactions from the movie reviews, Kim Kardashian is truly impressed with "Fifty Shades of Grey" when she tweeted that she watched a private screening with her girlfriends and added "OMG it's sooooo good!!!!!"
"Fifty Shades of Grey" will be released in the US on February 13.
