Hyundai's Motor Manufacturing plant in Montgomery, Alabama is adding new production and maintenance shifts to its work load. Initially suspending its application process on May 18 due to large influx of applications coming in, Hyundai has now reopened its process until June 2. 20,000 people have already applied for new jobs at the plant.
Due to high volume of applications received, Hyundai's company officials have advised that there is no promise that all applications will be seen or even make it through the application process.
Those interested in applying for positions are encouraged to do so through the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) website, as they are partnering with Hyundai to help make their hiring process much more manageable.
As of May 22, 18,500 applicants were registered into the system and approximately 7,000 have been filtered out as applicants who highly qualify for the position. The next part of the process includes Hyundai officials screening applicants for 13 hours, 6 days a week. Applicants also have to go through a pre-employment screening phase and are then offered the job once they successfully pass that phase of the employment process. Around 50 of the job openings have already been filled by employees who worked as interim workers at the plant.
The hopes are to complete the hiring process by July.
When the facility first opened, AIDT was given 2 years to bring in 1,000 employees. This time they are given several months to bring in about 900 people to work for Hyundai in September. The government of Alabama has shown Hyundai great support in their endeavor, as it will create a large amount of jobs in the area. With the expected employment of almost 1,000 people, Hyundai's employee count will be pushed to over 3,000 people.
Hyundai is said to direct their focus on hiring more employees because of the success of their vehicles in North America. Prior to the new job openings, many of their workers were working overtime to ensure the continued success of their vehicles, so the company decided to invest in bringing more people in.
