A recent study done by the United Nations shows that there are financial benefits to creating and maintaing a greener planet. The whole idea behind this is that with the creation of environmentally friendly work places, there will be a need to hire additional people to transform work environments and to operate green machinery in these these places.
Those in charge of the U.N.'s Environmental Program and the U.N.'s International Labor Organization stressed that there is a likelihood of a net gain of up to 2% in employment worldwide. They further stressed that the use of renewable energy would also be a means of helping to reach this gain globally.
The study was recently introduced at an international meeting on sustainable development. Although the study does show that many new jobs will be created due to newer environmentally friendly technology, it does take into account that jobs will in turn be lost with the disappearance of older machinery.
Majority of the new employment possibilities are predicted to come from sectors such as energy, manufacturing, agriculture, fishing, forestry, building and transportation and recycling. If this transition to a greener work environment is implemented, it is predicted to affect up to half of the working world on a global scale.
There will be a conference taking place from June 20 to 22, where these ideas will be discussed. Those leading the conference hope that more active involvement is taken in regards to making environmentally friendly changes, rather than simply having leaders sign agreements to make these efforts.
