Pi Kappa Alpha Death: University Of South Carolina Fraternity Suspended After Teenager's 'Suspicious Death'

Pi Kappa Alpha Death - The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity has suspended its University of South Carolina chapter after a teenager was found dead following a St. Patrick's Day frat party on Tuesday night.

Justin True, a spokesman for the fraternity, said "The Fraternity's thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young man and the brothers of Xi Chapter."

Reports indicate that Charles Terreni, Jr., an 18-year-old member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, was found dead around 10:30am on Wednesday. Although Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has noted that there are no signs of trauma on the corpse, he described the death of the student as "suspicious."

An autopsy is scheduled to be carried out on the body of the late student today. Meanwhile, Columbia police are investigating the incident.

The body of the student was reportedly found in a private home on Lee Street, near the University of South Carolina campus, on Wednesday morning.

Residents in the area have revealed that the home where the Pi Kappa Alpha member was found dead has been used by students to host parties several times. Reports indicate that on Tuesday night there was a party at the property. Police reportedly found a keg of beer and St. Patrick Day decorations on the porch of the home.

No arrests have been made at the moment and there are no indications of foul play. Nonetheless, given the upsurge in headline-grabbing criminal activities (such as hazing and racism) involving fraternities in the country over the past few months, a question mark hangs over the USC's Pi Kappa Alpha frat.

Meanwhile, Wes Hickman, a spokesman for the university, has noted that there many rumors about the case. But he says the university is focused on helping its "community grieve and heal" while they await the result of the police investigation.
