WWDC 2012: What to Expect and What NOT to Expect

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is just about to make a spectacular opening on Monday. But even weeks before the event’s start, rumors and speculations regarding Apple’s big announcement surfaced the online community.

As the Cupertino-based IT giant is preparing its way to open the stage, here are some of the things that we could expect, and some that we shouldn’t expect, at the event.

What to Expect

WWDC 2012 is going to be held at Moscone Center in San Francisco. Works had been busy over the weekend in setting up the stage and banners at the conference center, and we can be assured that the iOS 6 will be announced this year, along with OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud.

Under the iOS 6 banner reads “The world’s most advanced mobile operating system”. The new operating system that runs Apple’s iPhone and iPad is expected to ditch Google Map as a default service and provide its own. Other rumors indicated that iOS 6 will have a tighter integration with Facebook, support for desktop apps, improved photo-sharing capabilities, and a brand new design for UI.

OS X Mountain Lion had been announced as early as February, so it is not something new to expect. The “world’s most advanced desktop operating system” has been rumored to be released this summer in order to compete with Microsoft’s Windows 8.

An updated iCloud and Siri voice service are also something to expect at WWDC 2012.

What NOT to Expect

No matter how much people drool over the introduction new iPhone 5, it is not likely to happen next week in San Francisco. Considering the October release of iPhone 4S, Apple is not likely to come out with a new version in only eight months. Although Apple has a history of unveiling new iPhone models at WWDC’s until 2010, the tradition stopped last year.

Apple’s update on its MacBook Pro is questionable. Rumors have mountained that the new MacBook Pro 2012 will come with Retina Display and become almost as thin as the previous MacBook Air models. Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports have also been mentioned.

We want to be careful about MacBook Pro 2012 predictions, but if it indeed shows up at WWDC this year, it will become the hot topic for sure.

Stay tuned as more reports about WWDC 2012 are on their way.
