Singer D'Angelo Makes Career Comeback at Bonnaroo

Who says singer D'Angelo's career is over? The R&B performer proved otherwise as he made a comeback performance at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival this weekend.

The celebration held in Manchester, Tennessee, featured artists such as Childish Gambino, Radiohead, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

For over a decade D'Angelo has not be active in the music scene, but when he came out to perform on Sunday morning, he was given a warm response from the crowd. DJ Questlove announced prior to D'Angelo coming out, "I've been waiting 12 years to say this-ladies and gentlemen, D'Angelo!"

The show this weekend was his first since 2000. He is scheduled to also perform at the Essence Music Festival this July, as well as make an appearance on a European tour in the current months.

D'Angelo gave the audience 90 minutes of sultry sound, performing songs such as Jimi Hendrix's "Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland" and the Beatles' "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window." The singer however did not perform any of his own music.

DJ Questlove encouraged the singer to make an appearance at Bonnaroo this year in hopes of inspiring him to break back into the music scene again. Questlove said, "Me doing it was basically showing him, 'Look, you are so missed you don't even realize how much you are missed,' hoping that this will be the adrenaline boost that will finally get him to turn his record into the label. It's done, it's brilliant. I played on it. I know it's brilliant. Now it's just time to let his kids go and show it to the world. That's what I'm here for."
