Is "Grey's Anatomy" actor Patrick Depmsey being axed from the long-running show because of his clash with show creator Shonda Rhimes? Sources claim that this may be something in the works for the actor, who is said to be displaying a "diva" attitude on set.
In the latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11, Dempsey's character, Dr. Derek Shepherd went missing amid speculations that he was killed in a car crash.
Despite revealing to his wife, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), that he had cheated on her while he was still in Washington D.C., the couple decided to work things out, only to be tested again when Derek went missing and with Meredith clutching her cellphone in hopes of getting word from her husband.
It turns out, Derek was not dead, but instead emerged as the helping doctor, who had helped car crash victims.
Notwithstanding the heroic storyline, several sources are claiming that this is already a teaser to Derek's fate just a couple of episodes prior to the May 14 finale of the current season.
The reason for Dempsey's character's death on the show is said to be his not-so-pleasing attitude on set which show creator Shonda Rhimes doesn't like.
Page Six reports that Rhimes is not all pleased with Depmsey's "diva" attitude lately.
"Patrick has been acting like a diva and has clashed with Shonda. She suspended him for a while, and the word on set is that he isn't coming back full time," the publication wrote, citing sources.
"Given all the past problems with Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent," an insider dished.
Rhimes has yet to confirm this news, but in her previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, she already confirmed that Dempsey will be out of the picture for a while.
"It's highly possible that we might not see Derek for a while. There will be a time when you see him again, yes, but it's probable that you don't see Derek for a while," she said.
A new "Grey's Anatomy" episode, entitled "How to Save a Life" is set to air this Thursday night.
