Skype and Mac join forces again as Skype recently announced a new version for Mac software. The new Skype feature caters to user feedback. Improvements to the video call and screen sharing options have been made and the resizable contact list still remains.
News of the improved version comes after Wednesday's announcement from Skype that Windows users on the company's free service would see advertisements within the software. Despite the change to the Windows users experience, the same was not announced about those who will use the new Mac version. However, similar announcements may be in Mac's future.
Details about some of the new Skype for Mac features includes more effective video calling between Mac users and mobile device users. Phones can now be synchronized with Mac software. For example, if someone rotates their Skype screen on an iPhone, iPad, or Android, the same will automatically occur on the Mac software. Also available is an improvement to the contacts monitor. Now Skype for Mac users can have a smaller and less screen-dominating interface and still manage to see contacts they are interested in viewing.
For those who pay subscriptions for screen sharing, the feature can now show live video side by side with shared photos. This gives users the opportunity to see a friend's reaction while sharing photos with them. Skype says the feature exists for both group sessions and one-to-one screen sharing.
The updated Skype is also compatible with Mac's new OS X Mountain Lion, as well as backward-compatible to Leopard.
The new version of Skype for Mac is now available for download on the Skype website.
