Nepal Earthquake 2015 - After a magnitude 7.8 earthquake took over 8,000 lives on April 25, another powerful quake shook Nepal on Tuesday, May 12, 12:35 p.m. Nepali time (3:15 a.m. ET). The magnitude 7.3 quake killed at least 66 people and more than 1,000 were reportedly injured.
The latest Nepal earthquake 2015 is an aftershock of the powerful quake more than two weeks ago, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The earthquake hit near the town of Namche Bazaar and sent thousands of panicked residents on to the streets of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.
"For the first seconds, it was complete silence. By the fifth second, everybody started to scream," Marc Sarrado said. The 41-year-old Spanish documentarian was in Nepal's Nuwakot Valley, about two hours northwest of Kathmandu, when the quake happened.
The Nepal earthquake 2015 was also felt in Northern India, Tibet and Bangladesh, according to BBC. Sixteen people had been killed in the state of Bihar, and one more in Uttar Pradesh, India's home ministry said. While Chinese officials said one person was confirmed dead in Tibet.
At least 15 significant aftershocks, one registering magnitude 6.3 were recorded in Nepal over the next 14 hours after the latest Nepal earthquake was experienced, USA Today reported. Aftershocks also rocked a portion of China.
"This is a really big one," Prakash Shilpakar, a handicrafts shop owner in Kathmandu said.
Later on Tuesday, a US Marine Corp helicopter involved in disaster relief efforts had gone missing while working in the vicinity of Charikot. Eight people were on board, US Military said.
"The earth shook and it shook for a pretty long time," BBC's Yogita Limaye said. Limaye was in Nepal's mountain when the latest Nepal earthquake struck.
"I can completely understand the sense of panic," she added. "We have been seeing tremors - it's been two-and-a-half weeks since the first quake. But this one really felt like it went on for a really long time. People have been terrified."
The country's exhaustion was evident in a message sent via a government Twitter account about two hours after the Nepal earthquake 2015.
"Pray to Almighty: Keep all Nepalese safe in this difficult period of time," the message reads, which was sent from the Nepal Emergency Operations Center.
The Nepal earthquake 2015 on Tuesday is likely to be one of the largest and catastrophic to hit the poverty-stricken nation, which has endured hundreds of aftershocks since April 25.
