Microsoft to Reveal Tablet Computer

On Monday, Microsoft will be revealing its very own tablet computer. This is the first time the company has taken on an endeavor like this. They are most known for creating the software that runs computers made by other companies like Apple, however for the first time they are giving the tablet market a try.

The device is expected to run an updated version of Microsoft's Windows system. It took the company 37 years in business to create a personal computer and Microsoft's biggest competitor in the tablet department will surely be Apple's iPad.

Apple is the one company that has shown that the most profitable and effective way of creating a device is for companies to design and create the entire thing. This is an idea that Microsoft has now decided to adopt, and something Google caught on to when the company decided that they would also design their entire devices.

Microsoft began as a very lucrative business in the late 90's by selling its Windows system to hardware companies. The company profited so heavily from this business that competitors could not match up to them and Microsoft really didn't need to make PCs at all to profit.

"If it's true that Microsoft is going to produce its own tablet, it's a major turning point for the company and shows just how breathtakingly the landscape has changed in a just a few years," said Brad Silverberg, a former Microsoft executive, to the NYTimes. "The stakes are enormous."

Despite Microsoft designing its own device, the company will still sell its software to hardware companies that have an interest in using their products.

Microsoft plans on showing its new tablet in Los Angeles this coming week.
