Is NeNe Leakes finally calling it quits? After almost 8 years on the hit reality television show, "Real Housewives of Atlanta," the 48-year-old Bravo star is leaving the show. Leakes' announcement came after news spread that she will be focusing on totally new projects.
Despite being the center of arguments and altercations that went down in "Real Housewives of Atlanta," NeNe Leakes confessed that her decision to leave the show wasn't easy and didn't come overnight. She revealed that she and her husband talked about it for weeks.
"This was definitely a hard decision for me," NeNe Leakes told People magazine. "Me and my husband [Gregg Leakes] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time. This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things."
In line with her decision on not to return on "RHOA," NeNe Leakes opened up about wanting to try doing something different. She also can't keep her excitement about her upcoming projects such as collaborating with socialite Kim Kardashian-West in her mobile game, "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood." Moreover, Examiner reported the ex-"RHOA" star will also have her own primetime television show.
Aside from the abovementioned projects, NeNe Leakes was also offered to co-host E!'s "Fashion Police," as well as a Bravo reality TV spinoff with Kim Zolciak titled "NeNe And Kim: The Road to Riches." She is also busy selling her own clothing line on her website and on HSN.
Throughout the years of negativity and controversies, NeNe Leakes admitted that she is more than happy to take the new direction of her career.
"I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders," she said before adding that her absence will make some of the housewives in "RHOA" happy.
"I think some of the girls will be happy," Leakes continued. "They always felt like I was the star, and they were never able to really shine with me there, so here's their opportunity to shine."
NeNe Leakes, however, is not the only housewife to ditch the drama on "Real Housewives of Atlanta." According to Us Weekly, Leakes' frenemy Claudia Jordan is also leaving the show.
