In a bizarre twist of events, Katy Perry finds herself embroiled in a legal battle with The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The retired nuns are blocking her attempts to buy their old convent!
According to the Los Angeles Times, the ruckus is not just about the nuns' property which has a spectacular view of the city but also about the "Firework" singer. Sister Rita narrated to Steve Lopez, "Well, I found Katy Perry and I found her videos and ... if it's all right to say, I wasn't happy with any of it."
What's more puzzling, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez has claimed that he is legally allowed to sell the hilltop property with its villa-styled design to the singer. The nuns were quick to refute his statement adding that the old convent is theirs and that they didn't want it to fall into the hands of Perry.
Stuff reported that the Grammy Award nominee has offered a whooping $14.5 million for the convent but the sisters are taking a stand to prevent the deal from happening.
Furthermore, the nuns have earlier entered an agreement with Dana Hollister, urban developer and internationally renowned interior designer, to sell the property. If the Los Angeles diocese does not foil her plans, she aims to convert the old convent into a boutique hotel.
The diocese however has made a move via court order to void Hollister's purchase, allowing Perry and her architect to visit the vast property.
The archdiocese believes that Perry is offering the best deal that will benefit the sisters. The singer has met with the nuns but her songs are not to their liking.
The nuns fear if the archbishop makes the sale, the diocese will not support their daily expenses. The archdiocese debunks the nuns' apprehension saying it is not the case.
Sister Catherine Rose, 86, contradicted by telling The Week: "We have control of our property, it's ours. The archdiocese is not taking care of us, we've been taking care of ourselves."
