Univision is the one of the latest networks to sever ties with Donald Trump after Trump's derogatory remarks against Mexicans.
Trump said on June 16, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists, and some, I assume, are good people."
The Australian Business Review reported that Trump's lawsuit is based on the fact that Trump's First Amendment rights were violated when Univision refused to air Miss USA. The said lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Manhattan.
Univision released a statement saying that Trump's basis for a lawsuit is "factually false and legally ridiculous." Univision also claimed that they will continue to fight Trump and that the main reason why they severed ties with Trump is that they support Democratic representative and candidate Hillary Clinton.
The lawsuit between Univision and Trump is not the only problem the Trump is facing right now. Because of the remarks he made against Mexicans, NBC has also cut off ties with Trump. Cheryl Burke, co-host for the Miss USA pageant, is also backing down. There is no update on who might replace Burke even though the pageant is due to take place on July 12 in Louisiana.
The Ricky Martin Foundation is also pulling out of a golf tournament that is set to be held in one of Trump's property, Belfast Telegraph reported. The tournament attracts major players and sponsors and it aims to provide scholarships for deserving Latino students. The tournament was originally set to be held at the famous Trump International Golf Club in Puerto Rico.
The New York Times reported that Trump has no plans on backing down and that he claims that the basis of his lawsuit is "totally accurate."
The extent of the effects of Trump's remarks against the Mexican people is yet to be seen especially now that he announced his plans on running for president of the United States.
