Sean "P. Diddy" Combs was not charged with felony as the Los Angeles County district attorney's office declined the charges after the recording artist's row with an assistant coach at the University of California Los Angeles last month where his son was playing football.
CBC reported that district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago stated the case will be turned over instead to the Los Angeles city attorney's office which could file lesser misdemeanor charges.
P. Diddy's lawyer, Mark Geragos, was thankful for the rejected felony charges and added that the case should never have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with.
The 45-year-old artist allegedly wielded a kettlebell during a confrontation on June 20 at the university's athletic facilities according to police, but no charges were filed. Combs said he was just trying to protect himself and his son.
Variety said that Combs swung the kettlebell against assistant coach Sal Alosi. Combs was said to have confronted the coach in his office after yelling at the rapper's son, Justin Combs, who is a redshirt junior defensive defensive back on the team. Combs was watching the practice at the sidelines.
Following the incident, he was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and creating terrorist threats. He was then released from custody after posting bail. KTLA 5 said that Combs posted a $160,000 bond within hours of his arrest, and denied that he was in the wrong.
The rapper-mogul's representative, Nathalie Moar said that they are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.
Officials from the university had very little to say on the incident, except for being grateful that nobody was hurt. Head football coach Jim Mora said that it was an unfortunate incident for all parties involved.
The UCLA football team has been working out on campus and Combs' son Justin has played in just a handful of games in his three-year stay with the team.
