Ann Curry could be leaving her "Today" show career behind.
It is rumored that NBC is considering replacing Curry as co-host of the "Today" show. A veteran to the network, Curry replaced Meredith Vieira a year ago as Matt Lauer's new partner. Lauer recently signed an extended contract to remain on the show.
Whether Curry will leave for certain has not yet been announced, however the New York Times first reported her potential leave on Wednesday.
It is possible that if Curry does in fact leave "Today", that she may go on to pursuing her newly found passion in international reporting.
According to sources at NBC, there is also a possibility of her being placed in another part of the network.
Predictions of who will possibly replace Curry are already being made. Savannah Guthrie, co-host of the show's third hour, seems to have the highest chance of taking Curry's spot. Other possible replacements include Hoda Kotb and Natalie Morales, also co-hosts on the NBC network.
Keeping the now four hour long show successful is one of the networks greatest priorities. The "Today" show is currently the most profitable show on the network.
After not being chosen as Katie Couric's "Today" show replacement in 2006, but later being hired to replace Vieira last year, Curry told The Associated Press that she would have remained on the show even if she had not been chosen again.
"It would have been nuts abandoning the broadcast," she said. "It would have been abandoning our viewers. I love our viewers ... I have a real sense of service when it comes to this job, taking care of the viewer and helping them have information that I think they should know and want to know."
Both Curry and "Today" show executives refuse to comment on the rumor as to whether Curry is in fact leaving. Instead viewers will just have to eventually see for themselves.
