Windows Phone 8 Apollo Revealed: Microsoft Improves its Mobile OS

Microsoft has been the big topic of conversation this week, as it announced its new Surface Tablet at Monday's exclusive event in California and is now unraveling another new device. The new Windows Phone 8 Apollo was introduced at Microsoft's Windows Phone Summit in San Francisco.

Eight were announced for the new phone. Some of them include the new Smart Screen, a multi-core processor, memory card support, a new Internet Explorer 10, a Wallet hub, Nokia Maps, and a business focused Windows Phone 8.

The new Start Screen gives users the chance to decide between a small, medium, and large size for Live Tiling. Also, the whole screen now has the Live Tile pinning feature, so that users can place more on the Start Screen.

The Internet Explorer 10 update includes an anti-phishing filter, Smart Screen, and has the ability to help users avoid email scams.

Microsoft's replacement of Bing Maps with Nokia Maps most likely stems from the close relationship Microsoft and Nokia have with one another. Although nothing too drastic has changed, improvements have been made to offline mapping support, turn-by-turn direction, and map control for developers.

Windows Phone 8 for business will now cater to business on the go, making app distribution and deployment much more accommodating for business. Some of the features include full-on onsite management, as well as private distribution.

Microsoft will continue to keep customers in suspense as all features have not been revealed about the new Windows Phone 8 Apollo. However, according to Microsoft, updates will be announced gradually as the summer progresses.
