Who would have thought that an annual Fourth of July shindig will be Billy Joel's surprise wedding party? The 66-year-old "Piano Man" crooner married his longtime girlfriend Alexis Roderick on Saturday at his sprawling Long Island estate.
On July 4, music legend Billy Joel tied the knot for the fourth time in front of his family and close friends. The lucky bride? His 33-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Alexis Roderick, who is a former senior Morgan Stanley executive, New York Daily News revealed. The ceremony was officiated by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The couple, Billy Joel and Alexis Roderick, who surprised their guests at their annual Fourth of July celebration by exchanging vows, decided to tie the knot before Roderick gives birth to their first child this summer. Daily Mail reported the newlyweds, who have been dating since 2009, are soon-to-parents to a daughter.
"The couple, together since 2009, opted to keep any further details of her pregnancy under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut," Joel's rep told E! News at the time. While a source told People magazine in April, "Billy is thrilled to become a dad again."
Present at the ceremony were Billy Joel's 29-year-old daughter Alexa Ray Joel, whose mom is supermodel Christie Brinkley, and actor-comedian Kevin James. The unexpected exchange of vows transpired in front of a small, exclusive group of guests at Joel's mansion on Centre Island in Oyster Bay.
The newlywed couple has been together since 2009 after Billy Joel met Alexis Roderick, a skilled equestrienne, at a restaurant in Huntington, near Suffolk County. In April 2015, the lovebirds confirmed they were expecting a child, Hollywood Life noted.
Meanwhile, the surprise wedding was Billy Joel's fourth time. He previously married Elizabeth Weber in 1973 before calling it quits in 1982. He was Christie Brinkley's ex-husband, whom she married from 1985 to 1994. And also an ex to celebrity chef Katie Lee, in which their relationship lasted for five years from 2004 to 2009.
After the wedding, Billy Joel will resume going on tour, with his next stop at Boston's Fenway Park on July 16.
